*snrk* Yeah, jiggling the connections comes right after "unplug it and plug it back in" on the list of infuriating suggestions which all too frequently end up solving the problem.

At least Rodney gets a little extra reward beyond just getting the thing to work right. (With that kind of extra reward in view, I'd keep futzing with wires long after it seemed to be likely to produce results.)
