This is the artwork I created for the third of the three stories I selected in the Original Fiction Big Bang. I must confess that it was definitely a challenge coming up with concepts for original fiction versus artwork in an established fandom, where I often rely (and perhaps I shouldn't) on the viewer's familiarity with certain characters and venues.

Inspired by the delicate yet passionate maneuvers between the three protagonists, the first two versions are based on heavily edited promotional photos of tango dancers and starscapes. The third version illustrates the intertwined silver, gold, and blue ring they all wear and their royal retreat.

Title: Triumvirate by [livejournal.com profile] kittydesade projected post date September 27
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Science Fiction/Space Opera
Warnings: None at the moment that I can think of. Some cultural imperialism.
Summary: Two men and one women from disparate backgrounds and separate nations who marry as representatives of their people to stop a war that's been going on for a few generations. They make it work, discover they really can at least be friends and care for each other, and foil not one but two plots to destroy the peace and restart the war.

This is the artwork I created for the second of the three stories I selected in the Original Fiction Big Bang. I must confess that it was definitely a challenge coming up with concepts for original fiction versus artwork in an established fandom, where I often rely (and perhaps I shouldn't) on the viewer's familiarity with certain characters and venues.

I went for an old-fashioned fairytale illustration for this story in various colors and effects, titled and untitled. The author then requested icons, and I couldn't resist working with the dragon. The illustration itself was constructed from three different landscapes, the figure from a cape advertisement and a hairdresser's advertisement, and the dragon (feathered serpent) from a two snakes and parrot wings.

Title: Things Not Written by [livejournal.com profile] imaginary_rose projected post date September 25
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Fantasy
Summary: What do a seer, a sorcerer, and a rogue mage have in common? Nothing once the magic starts disappearing.

I must confess that it was definitely a challenge coming up with concepts for original fiction versus artwork in an established fandom, where I often rely (and perhaps I shouldn't) on the viewer's familiarity with certain characters and venues.

For the first two in this set, I was attempting to create a 'typical' detective novel cover you might see in a paperback stand. The last was an experimental piece in a quasi-shadowbox effect.

Title: Out of the Bag by [livejournal.com profile] esotaria
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Mystery
Warnings: None
Summary: One dead petstore owner. Two people with excellent reasons for wanting him dead, and a third suspect with an uncanny connection to animals. How this all relates to an illegal puppy mill, Detective Rashni Wiles isn't sure, but she will find out.

Title: Across The Borders of Time
Author: not_from_stars // eternalscribe (Writing journal)
Artist: danceswithgary
Fandom: Primeval
Category: Het and Slash
Rating: R
Summary: Captain Becker was forced to watch as Abby, Danny and Connor went through an anomaly to prevent Helen Cutter from destroying mankind. After Connor is hurt, Danny sends Abby ahead of them to stop Helen no matter what she has to do. Unfortunately, after killing Helen, Abby returns to the site of the anomaly -- only to watch it close before she can go through it. This leaves Abby trapped in the Pleistocene with no way of getting back home, and with no way of letting the people who love her know that she's alive.
Artist's Notes: The heart of the story was Abby's journey, so I focused on her for the title graphic.

I'm fighting off bronchitis and dealing with too much joint pain to think about writing at the moment, so you get an art retrospective instead. :-P

The artworks for [personal profile] sgareversebang have been chosen by the authors and I must confess I'm thrilled that someone wanted mine as their first choice! It's tough putting yourself out there, hoping someone will be inspired by what you've created.

I love all my fic and art pieces - if I'm not happy with them no one ever sees or reads them. Quite often, the art precedes the fiction for me - just like it does for the reverse bang challenge. Other times, the art is driven by the words, especially when I create something for another author. Of the hundreds of pieces in my galleries, I do have some favorites.

My personal favorites of covers/banners I've made for other people - image heavy )

If you have questions on any of the pieces (or any others), please feel free to ask. :-D

See that little girl in my icon? Well, she's nine years old now and just sent me a story she wrote. I know her mom probably looked it over first, but I still think it's pretty impressive. I created a background for it and sent it back. The 'house' in the background is actually a lighthouse that we stayed in together the summer before last.

Why yes, I am a very proud aunt, and not just because the heroine was named after me. :-D
