I should have expected it, but after I asked for exclusive, expensive, potential piles of flaming metal, I spent the rest of the night going, "Uh-huh, yeah, that's pretty. Save the picture for me and jot down the important facts that a guy would spout out when he was bragging about his new ride."
Hours.
I mean hours of "this one is 4.5 million, but it's a classic" and "yeah, it does look like a Transformer and has a special key that makes it go VERY fast" and I had to stop what I was doing and nod my head and try not to roll my eyes too much.
I'm the worst when it comes to appreciating beautiful, exotic cars and I admit it. I get dragged to auto shows and I try to be polite, but I couldn't tell you whether something was a Ferrari or a Maserati or a Lamborghini to save my life. I can recognize Cobras and Corvettes, but that's because I was subjected to them for years due to membership in a Corvette club and one is sitting out in the driveway right now.
Hence the request for assistance from Gary. The funny part last night was when my daughter joined in and Gary and I eventually stumbled off to bed about 2 AM. He's still upstairs asleep with visions of Ferraris, Bugattis and Dusenbergs (sic) racing in his head. I guess it shouldn't surprise me, she was the one who traveled across the country at age fourteen with him to drive the 'Vette back to New York from Los Angeles, where they'd flown out to pick it up. They had quite a set of adventures in his red 1971 Stingray Corvette and ten years later they still tell amusing stories about getting lost and killer elks and escaping hubcaps in Yosemite.
It's odd, but now that she mentioned it in her entry, computer adventure games were a passion long before, and continued throughout my twelve-year dancing obsession, and were replaced by fanfic, so there's an excellent chance fanfic could also be around for twenty years or so of my life.
Imagine me writing pr0n at age seventy. Red Hat clubs? Booooring!
*grin*

Date: 2007-09-16 11:56 am (UTC)I just finished William Gibson's "Spook Country" and in it the very rich facilitator of all kinds of stuff drives a Maybach. I have no idea what it is, but maybe you could get Gary to Google it?
Cars...pfft. All I need it to do is get me there, back again, and not cost me too much in gas or maintenance. The rest is details.

This would also be a helpful site it is loaded with rare stuff and all the info. It is easy to see the stats and even discusses cost. Plus it invilves concept vehicles so, you might find one you like that isn't even on the road yet!

Date: 2007-09-16 10:48 pm (UTC)I saw a commercial the other day with a grandmother text messaging and sending more messages than both her grandkids. It had me wondering, is that where all of the fangirls are going to be in a couple of decades. Still on the internet, writing about gorgeous men and having the time or our lives doing it? Doesn't sound too bad to me ;)
