I have the feeling that future Lex sent Clark back expecting that Clark would save the world by not saving him. Trapped in a cycle of destruction with no way out. But young Clark finds a better way and now everything can change. Wonderful!

I love that Lex still trusts Clark enough to send him back in time to fix their friendship in the past. In those few sentences, you can feel how much Lex wishes they kept their friendship.
